About
Throughout the history of the Woman’s Club of Chevy Chase, our mission has been to promote the welfare of the community in our corner of the State of Maryland. Philanthropy Committee leads the philanthropic efforts of the overall Club, selecting beneficiaries for grants and in-kind drives. The Committee is also available to collaborate with section-led philanthropy and scholarship efforts, providing recommendation and support where needed. Our philanthropy focuses on support for women and children, with a particular interest in education and professional advancement for young women. During a typical club year, WCCC contributes a value of over $250,000 to non-profit groups.
The philanthropic footprint of the Club broadly includes the following: efforts coordinated with the General Federation of Woman's Clubs which vary from leadership cycle, direct granting of the Club’s annual cash grants, scholarships to high school seniors and a returning adult student, monthly drives for gifts in-kind to local non-profits, and section-led giving and subsidized rentals, the most significant of which is monthly to the Red Cross.
Details and Other Information
The Committee consists of six or more members and directs the Community Services activities and other philanthropic endeavors of the Club, in keeping with the Club’s purpose as stated in Article II – Objectives. The Committee researches potential beneficiaries, selects programs and projects, and prepares a recommended list of recipients to receive Club funding. The list of recipients, with proposed amounts, is presented to the Board of Directors no later than its March meeting and, if approved, is presented to the Club membership at the next General Meeting for approval before funds are awarded. Designated members if the Philanthropy Committee are the Scholarship Chair, Endowment Chair, and the Community Services Section Chair.
Members are regularly active in the monthly Club drives and fundraisers including providing support for Upscale/Resale, which is a fundraiser dedicated to scholarships as well as other major Club fundraisers.
